Comformax®IB

    The Ultimate Wind Barrier and More

    The ultimate wind barrier should stop the wind, of course: during exertion it should also permit heat and perspiration to escape to help regulate the body's temperature.  Popular film membranes have excellent wind resistance but lack air permeability.  ComforMax®IB provides excellent wind resistance, too - in fact, it takes 14 layers of 40 - gram insulation, or eight layers of taffeta, to equal the wind barrier of one layer of ComforMax®IB.  Plus Comformax®IB is engineered to also provide an optimum level of air permeability to help maintain a comfortable body temperature.

    How do we do it?

    Comformax®IB starts as microdenier polyolefin fiber that is naturally water resistance.  Each fiber is extremely small - smaller, in fact, than a single human hair.  A process invented by DuPont, called hydroentangling, entangles the fibers with high-pressure jets of water, reducing the holes between them to microscopic pores.  this creates a "baffle" efect, which is why Comformax®IB achieves the optimum balance between wind resistance and air permeability.
